Still wondering why that project you started never reached the finish line? Or why that track you've been itching to release is still gathering digital dust? It's often the pursuit of perfection that gets us stuck (or sometimes just laziness, I get tbh). In the pursuit for perfection, you might just get fatigued and not make any decision in the end. (Bars)

In the wise words of the Yoruba, "Ono kan o woja," which roughly translates to "There are many ways to get to the market." I mean having multiple approaches is great, but it can also lead to decision paralysis.

We've all been there, right? Second-guessing ourselves with thoughts like, "Maybe I should have gone with option XYZ" or "Perhaps I should have tackled it from a ZYX angle" (yeah, I see what I did there). Sometimes, you just need to trim down the options or silence the choir of opinions to make a choice and take action.

And if you're the one serving up those options, here's a tip: don't go overboard. Sure, variety is the spice of life, but nobody likes their food too spicy (I'm on a roll, aren't I?). Instead, do some market research or survey and listen to your consumers or customers. Give them what they truly want and spare them the agony of decision fatigue.

Of course, if it becomes clear that your decision is going “south” (There’s South this weekend btw 🎉 ) or not going as planned, don't let sunk cost take you down (yeah, that's some big English there, go ahead and Google it). Be ready to pivot to a new idea or make a different decision when needed.

TL;DR (for my lil attention span babies 🫶):

  • When you have a plethora of options (yet another big english), try to limit them to the best of your abilities so it would be easier to make a decision.
  • Screw sunk cost, be ready to pivot to another idea or decision when necessary.

Catch you in the next piece!
